Following Dean Schaal, was a second presentation by Ret. Adm. Stavridis, this time on the Falkland War between Great Britain and Argentina in the early 80's. He segued into a discussion of soft and hard military intervention, using his military career as example. One of his commands was of one of two navy cruisers that are hospital ships. They cruise the world providing medical services in disadvantaged or devastated areas of the globe. We had seen one of these ships when we were on Oahu in 2012. It is an impressive show of the true strength of the US.
On Thursday, we returned our rental knee high boots and put away our Antarctic parka.
That evening, we had room service and watched the most recent Batman movie--good thing we had room service, as the movie was three hours long.
On Friday, we entered the Beagle Channel, watched as Albatross soared overhead and porpoise swam alongside.
That evening, we attended a pre-dinner Musical review with five French dancers and a Russian singer. We settled our bill, for on-board purchases, before dinner and the Captain raffled off a chart of our journey.
Saturday morning, we disembarked in Ushuaia where we spent a couple of hours wandering the town before departing for the airport and returning to BA. We took the bus into center city where we walked to a local cafe, Tancat, for a simple dinner of tapas.
On Sunday, we slept in and, following breakfast, walked to the Theatro Colon, the famous BA opera house, where we joined the English speaking tour. We ate that evening at the hotel restaurant where I had lamb and John had steak. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Argentinian Malbec. We returned to our room to repack given our trip the next day to Chile.
